Using 3D tracking with Mocha

This week we went back to some tracking in pre-recorded footage.

In case you didn't know, Adobe After Effects has other programs installed in it in the more recent versions. One of these programs is the tracking software Mocha.

Once we got the footage we were tasked with tracking a location in the footage to create an effect of a graffiti on the wall. The way that this done was by, firstly after the footage was imported with the right composition settings (HDTV 1080 25), I then opened the footage up in Mocha. With the footage imported I then set the 4 tacking points in the footage of where the effect will be. Once the position of the points have been set, I then rendered the footage so the points would lock into place.

With the footage set, the next part is setting the mask into the final render. The next set is to create a new shape layer that fills the comp size. With it set behind the footage, the mask is now fully black until a image is imposed in the shape layer. When the image had been put onto the black shape layer that is when the image shows up in the footage. However it appeared out of place, to make the image more natural in the footage I added an effect to make the image less sharp and more transparent, which is the final product that you see now.

I am happy with what I have done, and unlike other projects from after effects I feel that I could remember how to recreate a majority of this project. Any next steps, will just be learning more about the layout and tools of Mocha.
